Self-Blame-Selective Hyperconnectivity Between Anterior Temporal and Subgenual Cortices and Prediction of Recurrent Depressive Episodes

Persistent alterations in brain connectivity associated with self-blame may contribute to vulnerability for recurrent depression. Using functional neuroimaging, this study demonstrates that hyperconnectivity between the anterior temporal cortex and the subgenual cingulate predicts future depressive relapse. These findings identify a potential neurobiological marker for recurrence risk and support targeted interventions aimed at maladaptive self-blaming processes.
