Moral Motivation and the Basal Forebrain

Moral motivation underlies prosocial behavior and value-based decision-making, yet its neural foundations remain incompletely understood. This review highlights the role of the basal forebrain in integrating motivational, emotional, and social information relevant to moral behavior. The authors propose that this brain region plays a central role in linking moral values to goal-directed action, advancing our understanding of the neural architecture of human morality.
